About Deloitte

Deloitte Tax Services India Private Limited (“USI Tax”) commenced operations in June 2004. Since then, nearly all the Deloitte Tax LLP (“Deloitte Tax”) U.S. service lines have obtained support services through the teams in USI Tax teams.

Eligibility Criteria

• Branches Eligible are BE (CMPN, INFT)

• Aggregate Percentage 60% up to current semester

• No live ATKT

Registration Process

• The registration form was released on 14th September and the deadline was 17th September.

• We had to edit our resumes in the format provided by Deloitte.

• Registration was to be done on the company website and Google Forms provided by the college.

• Registering through the company website required a resume and a cover letter.

• A total of 242 students were shortlisted for the online test.

Placement Process

• The online test was conducted on 18th September.

• A communication test followed up with the online test.

• HR and technical interviews were conducted on 26th September.

• The final interview round was conducted on 27th September.

Online Test

The online test was conducted on the HirePro platform. The duration of the test was 90 minutes. Each section had its separate timer. You are not permitted to move to the next section without completing the previous one. All the questions were in Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format except the coding questions. This round was split into five sections.

1. Verbal Ability 13 Questions - 13 Minutes

2. Verbal Reasoning 12 Questions - 12 Minutes

3. Quantitative Aptitude 10 Questions - 15 Minutes

4. Technical MCQ’s 30 Questions - 20 Minutes

5. Coding Questions 2 Questions - 30 Minutes

Most questions would feel easy if you have practiced enough aptitude questions. It is important to pay attention to the timer during the test. Do attempt all questions even if you don’t know the answer as there is no negative marking. Approximately 60-70% of your answers should be correct to move to the communication test. The coding questions were easy and shouldn’t be a problem if you have practised easy and medium level questions on LeetCode.

Communication Test

The communication test is called Deloitte Versant. The majority of eliminations were done in this round. Proper pronunciation of English words and accurate sentence framing are required to pass this round. This round was split into six sections. It is recommended to use good-quality headphones for this round.

1. Reading - You have to repeat some English sentences given on your screen.

2. Repeat - You have to repeat a sentence exactly the way you hear it.

3. Questions - You have to answer simple questions in one word. For example, what are french fries and burgers. (ans food)

4. Sentence build - You will have to reassemble a jumbled statement.

5. Story retelling - You will hear a story and you have to retell it in your own words.

6. Open questions - You will be given a statement and you have to put forth your opinion on it. For example, should students give equal time to studies and physical activities.

I was able to answer 95% of the test correctly. It is very crucial to listen carefully as some pronounciations may be tricky. For the last two sections, be confident and use high vocabulary words if possible. After the online and communication test, 25 students were shortlisted for the virtual interview process.

HR Interview

This was the easiest round of the entire process. The following questions were asked

1. Introduce yourself.

2. Why Deloitte?

The interview lasted about 5 minutes. I had prepared well for the “Why Deloitte” questions and, I mainly spoke about my interest in Tax Technology Consulting (TTC) team which was one of the five teams in Deloitte that we would get an opportunity to work in. Please make sure you talk mostly about your extracurriculars and your personality rather than focusing on the technical aspects of your profile. 24 students moved to the technical interview.

Technical Interview

The technical round was immediately conducted after the HR round. We were given the names of our interviewers one day prior so I had researched about their background on LinkedIn. Make sure you know the job description as many candidates were asked questions on it. Although this round was technical, the interviewer asked some HR questions as well. The majority of the technical questions were based on internships, projects, and the features implemented. The following questions were asked:

1. Introduce yourself.

2. Explain two projects from your resume.

3. Most of your projects are based on Machine Learning and Databases so are you specifically looking for these roles?

4. How is your cab fare prediction algorithm implemented by you different from companies like Uber and Ola?

5. Which cases does your sudoku solver project handle?

6. Explain your internship tasks.

7. Do you want to pursue a master’s degree in the future?

8. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

9. Some follow up questions on the weaknesses mentioned.

10. Suppose you are traveling and your company laptop with confidential information gets misplaced or lost, what will you do in such a scenario?

My interview lasted for around 30 minutes and I was asked to explain my internship experience and the top two projects from my resume. Ensure that you can explain the working and functionality of your projects. For weaknesses, always mention the weaknesses that can be fixed and show the interviewer that you are working on them. It is important to ask questions to the interviewer after your interview. After the technical interview, 16 students moved to the final round.

Final Interview

For the final round, everyone had the same panel where a Senior Manager of Deloitte from Washington, USA was interviewing us. This round was more of a personality check where the interviewer wanted to know more about us and whether we would fit into Deloitte’s work culture. For this round as well, study the background of the interviewer so that you can get an idea of what type of questions can be asked. The following questions were asked:

1. Introduce yourself.

2. What are your likes and dislikes?

3. What are your hobbies?

4. What is your family background?

5. What are your long term goals?

6. Do you have any plans to pursue a master’s degree in the future?

7. Where do you stay in Mumbai?

8. Since your dad runs a business, why don’t you want to join it?

This round was more of a conversation than an interview. The interviewer was very friendly with all of us. One tip from my side would be to mention hobbies that resonate with Deloitte’s work culture. After the final round 10 students were placed in Deloitte out of which 6 were from INFT department.
